Getting started

The most difficult aspect about learning how to dance is taking the first lesson. Once you have taken time out of your busy schedule to come in for the first lesson, you will experience dancing the fun and easy Fred Astaire way. If you think you have two left feet and no rhythm, just remember that everyone, including Fred Astaire, started from the beginning.

Fred Astaire’s “Three Way System” of instruction gives you the most complete way to become an accomplished dancer! You will be prepared for any social occasion with our combination of Private Lessons, Group Classes and Practice Sessions.

Our Private Lessons are the most popular and helpful way of learning. Whether you are single, or a couple , your private lessons offer an opportunity to work on the specific characteristics of the different dances you choose , enabling you to progress at the fastest rate possible with the personal attention of the teacher. Even if you take lessons as a couple, both partners may choose to have their own teacher and experience dancing one-to-one with a professional so you can focus on the specific needs and different roles that you are about to accomplish as a leader or a follower.

Group Classes are a very important part of becoming a well rounded dancer, and are a great way to meet others who share a common interest. Most classes average four to ten people. They are comprised of singles and couples alike with one instructor and usually focus on several patterns in one dance. You are going to build your repertoire, add a little style, and boost partnership skills through dancing with other students. We carefully explain each move, and then time it to the music. Once comfortable, you dance it with a partner. It’s that simple! Being with others on your level and with similar interest makes it fun, social, and expressive.

Practice Sessions. Practice, practice, practice! At home? No room, no fun. In public? Too crowded, and those people watching! Our Studio is ideal: plenty of space, music easy to dance to, teachers help – plus your friends from Group Class dancing the same steps, making the same goofs you are, and sharing in the fun with you. They also offer a safe and comfortable environment for you to practice what you have been learning in your Private and Group Lessons plus meet new people and have fun with other students while you learn how to dance “in crowd”.

Remember that once you start we recommend you keep your lessons close together and have at least 2 even 3 dance activities a week so you can fully benefit of any program that we offer at the FRED ASTAIRE DANCE STUDIO OF MORRISTOWN. That way you can give yourself a chance to absorb and retain all the information at your most efficient level.

If you have considered taking dance lessons for some time now, the best place to start is our Introductory Special. It will help you take the right steps towards becoming the dancer you always wanted to be.

            Introductory Special Program
2 Private (30 Min.) Lessons / 1 Group (40min.) Class
$105 * per person / $180 * per couple
* New Adults Students Only. One time per person. No other discounts or coupons apply.

On your very first lesson you will be introduced to the basic elements on which all dance patterns are based. Dancing is like anything else. Once you understand how it works, it’s easy. With personal attention you progress at your own pace, focus on your own interest and needs.
We teach many dances you may use at weddings, company parties, on cruises or at any other social events. No matter whether you wish to become a confident social dancer or national competitor, we have the programs and the instructors to help you reach your dancing dreams.
